NLC Halloween Parade!
Tuesday, October 31st, 2023.
We will begin at 1:45 getting dressed. Parents are welcome to come help their students get ready. Kindergarten will start parading downtown at 2:00 p.m., 1st grade at 2:05 p.m., 2nd grade at 2:10 p.m., 3rd grade at 2:15 p.m., 4th grade at 2:20 p.m., and 5th grade at 2:25 p.m. We will stop on our way at the Preschool and let them walk in front of us.
Please remember that students cannot come dressed in their costumes to school. They need to bring their costumes in a bag, and we will change at school before we go on the parade. We do not allow face paint or costume related weapons. Please bring your own treat bag or pumpkin to put candy in. Parents are welcome to join. We look forward to parading with you!

Due to worsening road conditions and accumulating road closures USD 251 will release ALL student EARLY. NHHS will release at NOON, NLC at 12:30 p.m. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
Starting Tuesday, October 31st, 2023 the NHHS BUS will depart AMERICUS at 6:55 am.
6th grade students working on Aztec masks. Students designed their masks out of cardboard and are painting decorations and designs on them.

NLC Early Learning Center would like to take a moment to say thank you to PTO for sponsoring the field trip to the pumpkin patch today!

7th grade students reading books to the preschool. Exciting activity for both the preschool and junior high students.
Sixth grade students did a simulation over the European crusades. Students learned what the crusades were and how they started. When students finish the simulation they will be able to explain the cause and effect of the Crusades. Great activity Mr. Lopez.
I would like to thank Captain Hayes and the Emporia Police Department for their service. Captain Hayes took the 8th grade students through an activity over the fourth amendment. Thank you for the informative activity that explained everyone's fourth amendment right.
On Thursday October 19th, all the students at ELC/NLC participated in a bus safety training. This drill focused on the bus filling up with smoke and the possibly of a bus being on fire. The training was put on by the Sheriff's department and the Americus fire department. Thanks to all our first responders.
The Northern Heights FFA Intermediate Horse Evaluation Team placed 2nd in the East Central District Hose Evaluation CDE in Kansas City today. Hayden S. (4th) and Reese H. (6th) were recognized as top 10 individuals in the contest.
At NLC Early Learning Center today, Mrs. Trinity read the story "From Seed to Pumpkin." The students got to use their senses and got a turn at getting the pulp and seeds out of a pumpkin. Sensory activities engage your kids’ senses of sight, sound, touch, and smell.
Students spent a few hours working in Admire today. Students planted bulbs at the concession stand and others were pulling weeds in the old playground.
Tomorrow is class picture and retake day at ELC/NLC!
Northern Heights volleyball end the day with a win over Council Grove finishing pool play 1-2 in the Flint Hills League Tournament.
