Sixth graders are currently studying about Ancient Rome and a scutum, or shield. Scutum was typically red in color, as red was the color of the Roman god of war, Mars. It was decorated with an iconic image such as a winged eagle to represent victory and lightning bolts.
The upcoming NLC Band/Choir concert is being postponed to a later date.

USD 251 has recently been awarded a Kansas Preschool Pilot (KPP) grant totaling $78,000 for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. This is the third consecutive year that our district has been awarded this competitive grant. The three year total of the awards is about $274,000. Between the state aid generated by the qualifying students and the KPP grant, the Early Learning Center's four year old preschool program has been fully funded.

Students at NLC Elementary, had an assembly to kick start the Kids Heart Challenge! They are raising money for the American Heart Association with a school goal of $3000.

NLC Junior High Track will begin practice on Wednesday, February 28th. Practice will last until 5:15 everyday and an activity bus will be provided. NLC track will be for 6th - 8th grade students.

NLC staff responded to provide medical assistance to an individual adult. No NLC students or staff members were in any danger. Our thoughts are with the individual and their family. Thank you.

Mrs. Lang's 1st graders enjoyed a visit from an aerospace engineering major from ESU. He brought backpacks to show us the difference in how a weight feels on Earth, Mars, and the moon.
